Common questions

How much does loft boarding cost in Bromley?

It depends on the area to be boarded, whether you need raised boarding, insulation work, and whether you want a ladder or hatch. Our cost guide explains each factor. We quote after a free survey.

Why choose raised loft boarding?

Laying boards straight onto joists can squash insulation that is deeper than the joists, and squashed insulation works less well. Raised boarding keeps it at full depth with an air gap above.

How deep should loft insulation be?

The Energy Saving Trust recommends a minimum of 270mm. See our insulation top-up guide.

Can I use a boarded loft as a room?

Loft boarding is for storage and light access. Turning a loft into a habitable room is a loft conversion and needs building regulations approval. See boarding vs conversion.

How long does loft boarding take?

Most lofts are boarded within a day or two, depending on size and access. We confirm timings at the survey.

Do you fit loft ladders as well?

Yes. We fit loft ladders and hatches on their own or alongside boarding. See loft ladder types.

Can you enlarge my loft hatch?

Often, yes. It may involve trimming a ceiling joist. Trussed rafters must not be cut without a structural engineer's advice.

Can I board the loft in a flat?

In many leasehold flats the loft belongs to the freeholder or is shared, so check your lease and get permission first.

Which areas do you cover?

Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham, Chislehurst, West Wickham, Hayes, Petts Wood, Biggin Hill and nearby.
